I doubt that bottle drifted over from Japan, probably just came from someone in the Local Japanese American community.
BUT...it is certain that waste from Japan is headed for the beaches of California this summer. I hope people will be smart and forget about swimming or surfing because the waters will be polluted with radioactive wastes. That is a nightmare in itself that the folks in Cali will have to deal with for a LONG time.
The item had no english and was not a brand imported for sale in the US.
...I always pack my own dish detergent from home when I immigrate to a new continent - especially to the US, which is well-known for its shoddy quality dish detergent... I pack it right along with my bags of sugar, salt, white flour, and of course several cases of mopping-up detergent.
The chance that it wasn't dislodged from Japan in March 2011 is not zero, but it's not much larger. We've seen debris wash up on other parts of the west coast for months now, why would we not expect this in California now?
