BRAWM..Any testing of ocean waters here in CA or anywhere in North America?

Hello BRAWM,

Thank you so much for all your hard work and this forum! While spending the 4th weekend at a beautiful beach where many children were swimming and enjoying the ocean, I had to wonder if it was safe. I know that the Pacific is a huge ocean and diluter, but if radioactive iodine was found in seaweed in Canada http://www.bclocalnews.com/news/118812574.html
then wouldn't Cesium and other isotopes follow the same path and be working their way down the coast? I know that iodine would be concentrated in the seaweed, but are we sure that the levels of the other isotopes are not high enough to be a health hazard for children swimming and playing in the ocean for hours? Will/can you test the ocean waters here in CA for Cesium? Seems a simple thing to do. I am wondering why nobody is testing this and making the numbers public. Do we not want to know?

Nope, YOYO MOFO

I guess so. : ( And I am

I guess so. : (

And I am guessing BRAWM doesn't want to/can't comment on this either. : (

I saw somewhere on Health

I saw somewhere on Health Canada's website that they are going to test fish, I'm sorry but I don't remember where I saw it. They said they didn't think levels would be an issue.

Canada became the first country to lift all restrictions on food imports from Japan the Japanese government said Tuesday. 40 other countries and areas continue to restrict food imports from Japan, the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries said.

The Canadian Food Inspection Agency said Monday that following an assessment it "no longer sees the need for routine testing imported food products," effective the same day. Since April 1, the agency had demanded test results verifying the safety of all products imported from 12 prefectures including Fukushima and neighboring prefectures. The agency had also asked for certificates proving the origin of products from other prefectures.

Japan's exports of farm and fishery products to Canada totaled about 4.6 billion yen in 2010.
