"Implications of the Kyoto Protocol and Beyond"

Presented By

John Shinn
Sr Staff Adviser, Global Issues
ChevronTexaco

With Russian ratification the Kyoto Protocol is now destined to enter into force as the global agreement governing greenhouse gas emissions. However, the Protocol will not include reduction requirements for several large emitters, notably the United States and Australia, and emerging nation large emitters China and India. In this talk we examine the impacts of Kyoto entry into force, and the implications for both countries that will undertake reduction obligations and those that will not. We will also examine what lessons may be taken from the Protocol toward creating alternatives for commitments beyond Kyoto.
