"Nuclear Energy Policy in France:
European Context and Environmental Issues"

The presentation aims at a global overview of the current nuclear energy sector in France, starting with a short historical introduction, retracing the major steps in building the French nuclear power infrastructure. The second part of the talk is dedicated to the French fuel cycle option, focusing on current and future plan for burning MOX with some basic information on cost issues and environmental impact of SF reprocessing/recycling. The third part of the presentation looks at the prospect of nuclear energy in the long term, the shift of emphasis from energy security to sustainability, the European context (European Union and individual countries) and last the French approach to prepare for the future.
