“TRISO fuel-performance modeling for Deep Burn applications with ZrC as a load-bearing barrier”

Presented By

The concept of the “Deep Burn” reactor and an improved TRISO-coated fuel particle design will be discussed. In the latter, replacing the conventional SiC load-bearing barrier with ZrC offers several advantages – high-temperature stability, resistance to fission product attack, and suppression of the CO pressure inside the fuel particle. An SiC dopant in pyrocarbon layer will be discussed. Results from GA's proprietary computer code predicting stresses in coating layers and fuel failure during normal and accident conditions will be presented.
