“The Role of Systems Analysis in Advanced Fuel Cycle Development”

McCarthy

Presented By

Kathryn McCarthy

Deputy Associate Laboratory Director,
Nuclear Science & Technology
Idaho National Laboratory

Systems Analysis provides the integrating analyses for the US DOE fuel cycle program, enabling examination of a diverse set of scenarios.  This is particularly important for complex systems such as the nuclear fuel cycle, where more than one pathway exists for closing the fuel cycle.  Systems Analysis activities include evaluation of various technologies, off-ramps, and deployment options. Of particular importance is the dynamic behavior of the system, since the transition to a closed fuel cycle will take several decades.
