“A New Element Strategy in Nuclear Fuel Cycle –
Toward Utilization and Reduction of Radioactive Wastes”

Presented By
Masaki Ozawa

Chief Principal Scientist of Japan Atomic Energy Agency (JAEA), belongs to Advanced Nuclear System Research and Development Directorate
Visiting Professor of Tokyo Institute of Technology (TITECH)

A Trinitarian R&D strategy (Adv. ORIENT Cycle) on separation, transmutation and utilization of nuclides in the nuclear spent fuel is introduced. On utilization of rare metal fission product, catalytic electrolytic extraction of PtG, Tc and Re, and their electrochemical property as for electrolytic H2 production catalyst are discussed. Also, the current data on element separation of Cs and Sr by novel nano ion-exchangers and challenges on isotope separation of Rb and Cs by laser-chemical method are given.
