    • Summer student internship at Chevron on nuclear issues. opportunity for one or two internships in the summer. We would pay the usual internship stipend which is substantial. As for projects in nuclear, the student would work with me to investigate subsurface nuclear logging problems of current research interest by using theory, Monte Carlo modeling and field data. The intern will be located in San Ramon, while remaining connected to UCB. Taking NE 290B would help but is not a requirement but a knowledge/experience of radiation transport modeling MCNP, diffusion theory and Sn methods, etc) is a must. Understanding of spectral data analysis will be extremely valuable. If the experience of internship is mutually satisfying, the intern will have an excellent chance of full-time employment in the future in Chevron.     • Dr. Dan Giorgi, Director of Research at Baker Hughes which is one of the three largest oil service companies who design and build instruments for subsurface nuclear probing from standard porosity and density to spectroscopy. They use Monte Carlo modeling (with MCNP) extensively for the task and are looking for a Ph.D (or soon to be PhD) in Nucl Eng or physics with Monte Carlo modeling background. Baker Hughes is an excellent company and they are working on some interesting ideas. They are located in Houston.

    • The Los Alamos Neutron Science Center (LANSCE) is seeking an outstanding postdoctoral candidate in the area of spallation physics.
    • Schlumberger-Doll Research, SDR is the oldest and most prestigious research lab in the oil industry. Scientists there work on cutting-edge technology.
      Positions in the Nuclear Research Program at our Cambridge, MA location. Candidates should have a doctorate degree (Ph.D.) and experience in an industrial or university research lab. Both full-time and Post-Doc positions are available depending on qualifications and work history. It is preferred, but not essential, to have some experience in oilfield applications in formation evaluation and monitoring. The candidate should have strong technical and communication skills and the ability to foster effective working relationships with experimentalists and other modelers.
      • Nuclear Modeler: Candidates must have experience with MCNP or other similar Monte Carlo codes. Experience with other nuclear modeling techniques is a plus. The ideal candidate will also have expertise in the areas of data analysis and interpretation. Experimental nuclear physics experience is a plus, but not required.
      • Nuclear Experimentalist: Candidates should have experience with many types of nuclear detectors, including scintillators, solid-state, and gas tubes. Experience in other areas of nuclear physics such as low to medium energy accelerator design, nuclear instrumentation, data analysis, gamma-ray spectroscopy, neutron detection and spectroscopy is a plus.

      Position Title: HP/Senior Radiological Control Technician
      ESSENTIAL DUTIES
      Provide radiological control functions including contamination and radiation control, area posting, area radiological monitoring for control purposes, radiological release materials, surface survey for radiological characterization and track radiological exposures for access control, irradiator control. Counting room activities for low beta and gamma include LSC calibrations and survey measurements. Training duties include new employee, packaging, X-ray surveillance, laser safety, ERT. etc.
      At the NASA Ames Research Center, Mountain View, California, perform special studies in the evaluation of radiological protection for personnel, environmental, or project area; participate in area specific radiation work qualification . Prepare and maintain dosimetry, records and documentation as required; and provide assistance in the preparation of radiation control documents such as RWPs, ALARA forms, and work procedures.
      Perform laser surveys and maintain records and documents as required. Other duties and assignments as directed.
      JOB RELATED QUALIFICATIONS
      An AAS in Radiation Protection, Nuclear Technology, Nuclear Navy or equivalent training. Current valid driver's license is required. Current 40 hr. Hazardous Waste Training is preferred. Current DOE Core or NRRPT is preferred. Must be able to pass a Hazardous Waste Worker physical. Ability to perform the essential duties of the position.

    • There are two new positions open for modeling thermal-mechanical and materials science performance of nuclear fuels at the Paul Scherrer Institute in Switzerland.
