UC Families
A web resource and discussion forum for faculty, staff and student parents at all University of California campuses. The UC Families home page provides up-to-date campus-specific parenting resources, UC-wide policy information, and archives of past recommendations and advice. Members can post or reply questions or information, and receive a newsletter approximately twice a month. Examples of discussion topics include deciding whether to pursue an academic career and have a family, advice about being a student parent, returning to academia after having a baby, managing tenure track and parenting, advocating for flexible part-time options in academia, meeting childcare needs, or parent needs and supports. UC Families is a collaboration between the Berkeley Parents Network, a Bay Area parent-to-parent advice newsletter serving 12,000 families, and the UC Faculty Family Friendly Edge Initiative, designed to develop and implement a comprehensive package of innovative work-family policies and programs for ladder-rank faculty in the UC system.
