Prof. Eric (Rick) Norman's nuclear forensics work on a sample with a label claiming to be the "first plutonium sample large enough to be weighed" has been featured in an article in the Scientific American and in a blog post on the Physics Central Physics Buzz Blog. The sample was found several years ago in a barrel headed for radioactive waste disposal. Phil Broughton of UC Berkeley's EHS rescued the sample, and Prof.
UC Berkeley Department of Nuclear Engineering undergraduate student Hi Vo won Best Undergraduate Research poster at the 2014 American Nuclear Society Winter Meeting and Nuclear Technology Expo in Anaheim, CA in November. Hi's winning poster is entitled "The Development of Microcompression Testing at Elevated Temperatures". Congratulations Hi!
