Master of Engineering Program

Master of Engineering Program

In collaboration with other departments in the College of Engineering, Nuclear Engineering offers a one-year professional master's degree. The accelerated program is designed to develop professional engineering leaders who understand the technical, environmental, economic, and social issues involved in the design and operation of nuclear engineering devices, systems, and organizations. Prospective students will be engineers, typically with industrial experience, who aspire to substantially advance in their careers and ultimately to lead large, complex organizations, including governments. The interdisciplinary degree will consist of three major components, comprising a technical specialization in NE (minimum 12 graduate units), a “breadth” curriculum of engineering leadership courses (7 units), and an integrative capstone project (5 units). See The Fung Institute for more details.

Applying to the M.ENG. in Nuclear Engineering at Berkeley:

The M.Eng program starts each Fall semester. Applications are due by February 1 for the calendar year in which the applicant wishes to enter the program.

All prospective students must submit a formal application for admission into the M.Eng. program through the Graduate Division. Applicants should consult the Grad Division for information on applying to Berkeley, and links to the online application.

Applicants are responsible for ensuring that their applications are complete (all on-line forms are completed, at least three letters of recommendation have been submitted, transcripts have been uploaded, official GRE scores are sent to UC Berkeley). Incomplete applications will not be considered. The NE Graduate Admissions Committee will evaluate complete applications on the basis of academic records, statements of purpose, and letters of recommendation. The Committee will inform successful applicants by March 4 that they are being recommended to the Graduate Division for admission.

All material, including letters of reference must be submitted electronically. Students will be requested to submit electronic transcripts from all institutions: if you are offered admission to the department, you will then be required to submit official (paper) transcripts from each institution you have attended.
