Title:
Careers in Nonproliferation and International Safeguards
Date: Mar 15, 2010
Location: 3105 Etcheverry Hall
Time: 4-5pm
Abstract
Issues involving nuclear nonproliferation and safeguards, such as the ongoing dispute over Iran's nuclear program, dominate news headlines, but what does it mean to have a career in this field? Because nuclear issues lie in a nexus between the scientific and the political, the field is truly multidisciplinary, and as the field evolves to confront new challenges, there are growing opportunities for what will be the next generation of nonproliferation and safeguards specialists. This talk will draw upon experiences working for the federal government, the national laboratories, and the International Atomic Energy Agency to present an overview of what it means to work in nonproliferation and safeguards. Also, the talk will discuss various internship opportunities and ways to pursue a career in the field.
