Title: Advanced CANDU Reactors
Date: Oct 25, 2010
Location: 3105 Etcheverry Hall
Time: 4-5pm
Abstract
The Advanced CANDU Reactor (ACR®) is an evolutionary design based on traditional CANDU fuel-channel reactor, featuring on-line refuelling, light-water coolant, and heavy water moderator and reflector. The reactor design achieves reduced capital costs by significantly lowering heavy water inventory through reduced lattice pitch and light water coolant. The talk will overview the reactor design, computer codes for reactor physics analysis, and a comprehensive program for validation of capabilities and accuracy of computer codes.
Speaker Biography
Dimitar Altiparmakov received his DSc, MSc, and BSc degrees from Engineering Physics Department at Electrical Engineering Faculty of University of Belgrade, Serbia. From 1973 to 1999 he was with Vinca Institute of Nuclear Sciences, Belgrade, Serbia, working on reactor physics computational methods, cyclotron physics calculations, and cyclotron design. He joined Chalk River Laboratories of Atomic Energy of Canada Limited in 1999 as a reactor physicist and his responsibilities encompass development of the lattice physics code WIMS-AECL, generation of nuclear data libraries for deterministic and stochastic codes, and reactor physics analysis and calculations.
