Title: Long-term Performance Estimates for the Proposed Yucca Mountain Repository: Current Status

Date: Apr 14, 2008
Location: 3105 Etcheverry Hall
Time: 4-5pm

Abstract

The Department of Energy Office of Civilian Radioactive Waste Management plans to submit an application to the Nuclear Regulatory Commission in June 2008 seeking authorization to begin construction of the proposed Yucca Mountain repository for spent nuclear fuel and high-level radioactive waste. Documentation is now complete for the Total System Performance Assessment that provides the quantitative estimates of long-term performance that will be a central element of the license application. This talk will briefly summarize the current status of the project, review the regulatory requirements for long-term performance, and discuss the current modeling results in some detail, with an emphasis on insights derived from uncertainty and sensitivity analyses.
